What is Sevillanas? Sevillanas is a Spanish popular dance originated from flamenco and danced mainly in the region of Spain called Andalucia. It is a sociable dance where everyone does the same steps and it's danced for fun at 'ferias' or other social fun events. The dance is composed of four sets of two different sets of steps each with passes, turns... The main step to start all sets of steps is called the 'Sevillana step'. Sevillanas is danced in couples, could be a man and a woman or two women. To start dancing, the couple stand facing each other with a distance of about half a metre between them in a 'starting' position until the first sevillana step has to be taken. The music is also composed of four parts. There are many 'Sevillanas' songs from different Spanish groups but they all have the same rythm and timing although there can be fast or slow, but they are all danced with the same steps. Who is the teacher? Nuria comes from Madrid and has danced Sevillanas from a very early age. Although she does it as a hobby and for fun she has taken part in some flamenco shows around Madrid and has taught both Spanish people and foreigners. She started teaching foreigners when she developed a way of teaching the dance that could be easier for people who are not familiar with flamenco but still keep the essence of the dance. My rates are: €20 per hour within Estepona (upto 3 people). €25 per hour away from Estepona (upto 3 people). * *If you have more than 1 hour then the following hours will be charged at €20 per hour. |
